Reviews
We went last night, a Friday night. We were a party of fifteen celebrating a Friend's Birthday.
The cocktails were quite good. The Staff were okay.
I struggled with the DJ most of all, hence the 3 star review. He would play one or two good songs and then several that you could hardly dance to. People were standing around talking in the dance floor and for a group of Friends who love to dance, this was hard for us. Several groups left earlier than us.
The Starlight Room being in a Kimpton Hotel, a plus for dog owners like myself. We saw a couple with their dog enjoying their drinks, the views and the music.
What a great place for a quick bite to eat. On the top Floor . There's a dance floor with the best views of the City. This is definitely a must do! if you love to dance on a Friday night. Make sure you get in before 10 p.m so you can try the food apps. All so good!!! Salman sliders are the best!! And the chips are so good! Even there hot wings. I just wanted to order two of everything off the menu.
The first night we tried it was closed for a private event until later. The next night we had more luck, and because we went early (930 ish) we didn't have to pay cover and we got a table by the window. My wife had a delicious cocktail (devine something), was dessert but with booze. Music was great, although the DJ hadn't started yet. Cool atmosphere and amazing views of the city. As an added bonus, we watched the fireworks above the ball field. Unfortunately our table was stolen when we went to go back, but we were leaving anyway. Would be a really fun place to spend a whole night dancing. Mixed crowd, so we didn't feel too old, which is nice. Well worth checking out!
I used to love this place - one of may favorite 'all are welcome' night out locations in SF, with a stellar view. Recently they remodeled (nice) and rebranded as Lizzie's Starlight, and unfortunately the new swanky decor seems to have come with a snobby attitude.
It's rare for me to be negative on a place, but between the "no, all seating is reserved only now" and the barman who got testy that we were "in his way" when we tried to pull one more stool near the bar, it just wasn't a fun location to spend a weekend night any more. The attitude from several staff reminded me of those clubs which make you line up just so they can be selective on who gets in.
Great to see the revamped decor but really disappointed with the snobby unwelcoming attitude (it's truly rare for me to write such a negative review - but it was a pretty disappointing experience from a place I used to love).
Bar is located at the top of the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake hotel. The view is stunning. Although it was a middle of the week bar was very loud and crowded. Drinks were very good.
We found out about this bar on our Virgin Atlantic city guide on the flight to SF. They recommended the Sunday Brunch Cabaret. It was a great recommendation. A must if you are in town on Sunday.
The bar is perfectly decorated for cabaret. The brunch buffet is very good and served an hour before cabaret so you can finish eating before the start, if you want. There is plenty of choice and you won't go hungry. The cocktails are also very good.
The drag cabaret funny, interactive and slick. Prepare to be entertained.
Don't come for the view because the windows were all completely fogged up. The clientele was on the seedy side, with guys refusing to take no for an answer. Music fairly mediocre, we left within 15 minutes after paying the $10 cover - a complete waste. The coat lady literally never uttered one word not cracked a smile. The place feels very meat market-like from the seventies with rows of guys against the windows checking out the action and a disco ball above. The downstairs bathroom area was deserted on a Saturday night but the Art Deco architecture is worth a look.
Starlight room was re-vamped and got a new face and feel. But, I miss the old Starlight Room San Francisco charm: solid dance floor, cute regulars, fun bartender chats. Now the old charms all vanished, leaving us with this awkward cheap feel.
